Part Number: OEM18029538
Manufacturer Part Number: WP6-2011900

The Brake Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component plays a crucial role in stopping the washer drum from spinning at the end of the spin cycle. It ensures that the drum comes to a complete stop, allowing for safe unloading of laundry and preventing potential damage to the machine. Brake removal tool: TJ038315

Over time, the brake assembly can wear out or become damaged due to frequent use and the stresses of stopping a spinning drum. If the brake assembly fails, it can lead to issues with the washer’s spin cycle and overall performance.

Symptoms of a bad brake assembly include:

  • The drum not stopping quickly after the spin cycle
  • Loud noises or grinding sounds during or after the spin cycle
  • The washer shaking or vibrating excessively
  • Clothes remaining too wet after the spin cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Donald Walker for Model Number LAT2500AAE

replaced brake assembly as your previous email suggested. still no spin. pump works both directions water does drain out. agitation cycle works well. motor pulley hot with slight burnt smell on new transmission drive belt. radial bearing looked ok but i didn't check that close. installed pulley bearing dome side facing brake. turned pulley clockwise on shaft until light resistance felt ;then installed drive lug about 3/8-1/2 inch from pulley stop lug. No luck. pulley tightens by turning clockwise and comes to a stop. counterclockwise offers no resistance. clockwise means same way pulley was threaded onto shaft. assume motor is fine becausr belts spin both ways. have not replaced motor tension springs. without belts, motor slides along carriage fine. thanks but help!

Answer

Donald, Did you remove the tub cover and check for an article stuck between the tubs ? When you turn the drive pulley clockwise, there should be some resistance, then the tub and transmission should start to turn/rotate. If you hear a high pitched click, and the tub and trans start to turn, or the pulley becomes very hard to turn clockwise and the parts don't start to turn, you have a seized tub bearing and will need to replace it and the seal 6-2095720 6-2040130.
