Mark Hi, I have a Whirlpool that intermittently cannot get into the high spin mode. Recently, I cannot get it to spin on high. I have made it to the removal of the spin tube (which has no corrosion). I did not have black dust on the floor, but instead, on-top of the transmission. Is this normal due to the brakes stopping the basket when the lid is opened during spin? Or is this an indication that my brakes are dragging during spin and therefore unable to obtain the high spin speed? Note, I have not noticed any burning or smoking smell if it were the brake pads rubbing. If the washer still spins, but cannot get to the high spin, what else could be happening? Thank you in advance-
Answer Hello Mark. It sounds like the clutch assembly 285785 is bad and will need to be replaced. The new clutch assembly will come with new brakes as well. Hope this helps. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, October 12, 2011
