Manufacturer Part Number: W10804664

The Capacitor is an OEM component specifically designed for Whirlpool brand clothes washers. It is an essential electronic part that helps control power distribution to the direct drive motor during cycles.

Symptoms of a faulty capacitor include:

  • The washer fails to agitate or spin clothes properly
  • Noisy or grinding sounds coming from the motor area
  • Inability to complete cycles or unexpected shutoffs

Some causes can be normal with a capacitor drying out over time. Heavy loads, unbalanced spin cycles, or liquid spills putting excess strain on motor components may also damage the capacitor.

This genuine OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore brand washers.

Gary C for Model Number WTW5640XW0

I have a similar problem that others have asked however I have specific info regarding my test procedures. First I ran internal diagnostics and got the following codes F0/E5- Off balanced Load, F1/E2 - Motor Control Fault, F3/E2- Inlet water temp Fault. F5/E1- Lid Switch Fault. I can explain most of the trouble codes except F1/E2. Now my symptoms are as follows: When turning on the machine it cycles to test the load. When it gets ready to start there is a loud buzzing sound from the start capacitor which will not stop unless the machine is unplugged. I tested the capacitor with an ohm meter and it sweeps up and goes to zero on both terminals. Am I looking at a control board or capacitor?

Answer

Gary, It sounds like the capacitor is good if it gives you a resistance then drops to 0. You will want to get your tech sheet and on page 14 of the tech sheet there is a test for the drive system. You will want to run test 3b of the drive system to determine what the issue is. This could be a control issue, a motor issue or possibly a wire harness issue. If you have already tested the motor and the wiring and it is good then the control board would be the issue.
