Manufacturer Part Number: WP12028505AP

The Door Closer is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component ensures that the refrigerator door closes smoothly and securely, maintaining the seal that keeps cold air inside and warm air out. The door closer helps to prevent the door from remaining ajar, which can lead to increased energy consumption and reduced cooling efficiency.

Causes of a bad door closer can include regular wear and tear, physical damage from repeated use, or misalignment. A malfunctioning door closer can result in the refrigerator door not closing properly, leading to cooling issues and higher energy bills.

Symptoms of a bad door closer include:

  • The refrigerator door not closing or sealing properly
  • The door not staying closed
  • Warm air entering the refrigerator, causing the interior temperature to rise
  • Increased energy consumption due to the door not sealing

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Tom, Yes, here is a door closer cam for both refrigerator doors WP12028505AP / WP12028505AP. You will need to remove the door to access them. On the left door you will need to remove the hinge cover, disconnect the wire harness and water tube, then remove the top hinge and lift the door off the center hinge pin. Check the closer cam for damage, excess wear and tear, and replace it if necessary. Use some white lithium grease to lubricate the closer cam and the door cam. If the closer cam on the hinge isn't damaged, etc. Then you will need to replace the door assembly, the door cam is internal to the door and can't be replaced.
