Ken, you can remove power to the range, disconnect the wires from the gas valve terminals and check for a "closed" circuit across the terminals using a multimeter. Then reattach the wires, place the meter leads on the terminals of the safety valve, set the multimeter to read AC voltage, restore power and select a baking temp. and start the cycle. You should read 3.2 to 3.6 VAC across the terminals if the igniter is working properly. It should only be a matter of seconds for the voltage to reach 3.2 to 3.6 VAC, The longer it takes to reach the voltage, the weaker the igniter circuit resistance and the igniter will need to be replaced.
