Liketrytofix for Model Number ED5LDEXWB00

I have a 1.5 year old whirlpool side by side refrig-freezer model ED5LDEXWB00 and our refrigerator side was getting warmer and warmer no matter if I turn to coldest setting. The freezer side was still cold/frozen. Empty it. Took panel off inside freezer to expose coils - it looked like needed to be defrosted and was all frost/frozen up. Fan works & air comes out of top vent frig side,I did notice more air came out when opened freezer door. This mean anything? Bottom vent seemed open-splashed alittle water in and came right out freezer side. Recall that defrost heater tube was NOT frozen before started defrosting. ( remember seeing black at bottom (tube-defrost heater tube assuming) and thinking must be working or would be frozen. Was frozen right above it and more frozen at bottom of coil section than top. Would say the unit was continuing running unless turn refrig side dial to off. Then it would stop( this matter?)Thinking defrost heater, defrost thermostat or PCA( am I correct this model doesn't have a defrost timer?)Is this PCA in compartment at top front of refrig by dials? What is your thought on my problem? - service call to me is a distance and expensive vs part replacement by self.

Answer

Hello Liketrytofix. You will need to test the defrost heater WP2323198 and the defrost thermostat WPW10225581. They should read closed for continuity when cold. If they are good, you will need to replace the PCA WPW10366605. Everything else you described sounds like it is normal. The air does slow down when the door is closed. This is due to an air tight seal. The lower vent seemed to be clear based on the information you provided. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
