Our problem progressed from: 1. Smart wash and Pot/Pans buttons stopped working but panel seemed in good condition and buttons seemed to push in fine. 2. The Drying light and other lights would come on during the wrong cycle. 3. For the past few weeks the only button that worked was the Start button, it would go through a process but it cleaned the dishes. 4. Today nothing works, no lights working at all on the Control Panel and the buttons do nothing. I have continuity across the thermal fuse (I assume I only have to check for continuity and not a certain resistance). I have 115v going into the Control Board, too. So, based on what I've read on this site so far it's either the Control Panel or the Control board, but I don't know how to test them. I have a multi-meter and have basic electronics knowledge (I understand ohms law, resistance, voltage, etc). How do I know which part is bad?

Answer

Hello SanDiegoJoey, You will need to invoke the diagnostics cycle. This will give you a starting point on the repair. If there is an issue with the board the unit will normally not enter the diagnostics. If it does, let it go through the process and see if any fault codes come up. If not, the control panel is the likely issue, but you should clean the ribbon cable before ordering any parts. Also, if any moisture is noticed in the control area, you should replace the seal around the vent area to prevent any further issues.
