For Whirlpool Panel Cntl (Part Number: OEM18052881)

Marc for Model Number Kenmore Dishwasher Ultra Wash 665.13742K603

A couple of months ago, the control panel buttons stopped function.. Performing a reset (button dance) brought the dishwasher back to life perfectly. Today, the "reset" procedure makes the dishwasher diagnostic switch back-and-forth between normal wash/quick wash for about 10 seconds each cycle (draining noises, etc).. Then, virtually all lights are permanently on - and unit is frozen.. No mechanical action. (Pots pan light is very dim - but all other lights are bright).. If I turn circuit-breaker off/on, it allows me to repeat the same process - always with the same end result. Control panel or control board?

Mike F. for Model Number 66513742k603

Our Kenmore dishwasher stopped working about a year ago, but after a few months actually started working again. My wife says that since then over time each of the buttons and their lights stopped working until eventually we lost the start button. The door latch switch works and is getting power. There is continuity through the thermal fuse. When I close the door latch switch the dishwasher starts the drain pump for a short time.Is this a control panel or circuit board problem? Thanks.

1 Answer

Mike, It's a control panel WPW10243210 problem. The key pad and or ribbon circuit(s) have started to deteriorate and fail. When you activate the power and the drain pump runs, that indicates the control board isn't "seeing" the touchpad circuits.

Our problem progressed from: 1. Smart wash and Pot/Pans buttons stopped working but panel seemed in good condition and buttons seemed to push in fine. 2. The Drying light and other lights would come on during the wrong cycle. 3. For the past few weeks the only button that worked was the Start button, it would go through a process but it cleaned the dishes. 4. Today nothing works, no lights working at all on the Control Panel and the buttons do nothing. I have continuity across the thermal fuse (I assume I only have to check for continuity and not a certain resistance). I have 115v going into the Control Board, too. So, based on what I've read on this site so far it's either the Control Panel or the Control board, but I don't know how to test them. I have a multi-meter and have basic electronics knowledge (I understand ohms law, resistance, voltage, etc). How do I know which part is bad?

Hello SanDiegoJoey, You will need to invoke the diagnostics cycle. This will give you a starting point on the repair. If there is an issue with the board the unit will normally not enter the diagnostics. If it does, let it go through the process and see if any fault codes come up. If not, the control panel is the likely issue, but you should clean the ribbon cable before ordering any parts. Also, if any moisture is noticed in the control area, you should replace the seal around the vent area to prevent any further issues.

Ron Hunt for Model Number Kenmore Dishwasher Mod: 66513482K902

The washer appears to be cleaning appropriately but the Control Panel (W10243210) lights don't accurately reflect what stage of cleaning (i.e., washing, drying, clean, sanitized) the unit is actually on. For example, it might be cleaning the dishes but the "Drying" light will be illuminated along with the "delay wash" and "Cancel Drain" LEDs. I purchased and replaced the Electronic Control (W10285179) but this didn't solve the problem. So now I'm guessing that the issue is with the Control Panel? Can I return the Electronic Control to you and get a credit towards the Control Panel? What do you recommend? Thank You, -Ron

1 Answer

Ron, This issue would be in the control board as opposed to the control panel. The control board WPW10285179 tells the unit which lights to turn on at the appropriate time and the control board is sending a different signal that what is occurring.

Peter, to verify a control panel/keypad assembly is functioning properly, you would need to check the resistance of the keypad ribbons (P1 connector on the control board), when the keypad is pressed, with a multi meter. You would also need to check and make sure, there is no corrosion, debris or moisture on or in the control board connector. Your power supply could also cause an issue, so make sure the power line connections are good and tight, properly polarized and grounded, with little or no fluctuations in the voltage under a load( when the dishwasher is running). We'll send you some technical information, so you can test the keypads and other components. Thanks
