James D. for Model Number KSBS25INSS03 My refrigerator is making a pinging sound frequently it seems to run more than usual with a normal loud cooling fan noise. The unit seems to be working properly other than the noise. I think it's a noise like it's working hard to cool the refrigerator. No clicking noises. The pinging is annoying though. I suspect it needs a new control board, but not sure. The refrigerator is like 10 years old and has worked great forever. I've never changed a filter or cleaned anything on it - although on the bottom of the unit it does look dusty. Not sure what to do to try to fix myself, or how to even clean. If I get a new control board, does that go in the panel inside of the refrigerator itself (where the blue lights are)? Do I need to get to the back of the unit to look at it (which is hard for me to do since it's against a wall now)? Whenever the filter percentage gets low I just reset it. Have never replaced the filter.
Answer Hello James, You should unplug the refrigerator and pull it out from the wall and open the rear compartment at the bottom. Save the cover to reinstall after cleaning/servicing since this directs air flow. Remove the grille from the front bottom to access the coils. Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevasse tool to clear all lint and dust from the coils from under the front and rear of the unit. The filter is located in the front base of the unit behind the grille. Plug the unit back in while out and listen for any unusual noises. If further assistance is needed, please feel free to post another question. Read More...
