Manufacturer Part Number: WP2307037

This replacement part is an electronic control board. It is manufactured by Whirlpool and is responsible for monitoring and controlling the functions in a refrigerator. It ensures that the compressor turns on at the appropriate time, handles freezer defrosting, and much more. It can be damaged by exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. If the control board has failed, the refrigerator most likely will not operate at all. In some cases, users may notice intermittent operation, but the board should still be replaced as soon as possible. To replace the board, first unplug the refrigerator. Always wear gloves when servicing the refrigerator. This is a genuine OEM part and it is sold individually. It fits Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, and Roper branded refrigerators.

Judith for Model Number GC5SHEXNS03

This is a Designer Fit Whirlpool Refrigerator Side by Side style. I have had two repairman since February work on this Refrigerator. First repairman replaced electronic control board as he said the original had burnt out. He finally got the part in April of 2020. By end of month the refrigerator stopped working properly again. Here's what happens: the whole refrigerator goes on and off every 3 or 4 seconds; freezer temperature never works; the refrigerator temperature keeps going up or sometimes it goes down; the black rubber around the refrigerator sometimes gets burning hot. The second repairman from a different company was very thorough inspecting every part and cleaning coils in addition. He then told me to leave refrigerator on for 24 hours to see if it would work properly. I did that and the result was the same problem - nothing changed. He came back and re-inspected the whole thing again and said since the prior repair company replaced the board and he did everything he could that the refrigerator is a safety hazard and should be replaced. He unplugged it for safety reasons. Is there anything else I can do? What else can cause all these problems? I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you in advance for your reply. BTW, I am trying to sell this house and now I am in a quandary as to whether I should just buy a new one. Sincerely, Judith 2heyjudy@gmail.com

Answer

Hello Judith, what you are describing is the main control board starting to fail, it will try to run then stop then repeat erratically, it can also fail to power the condenser fan motor and the front edge of the center mullion will go warm to hot, also may not power the freezer evap fan motor and there will be no airflow for cooling. The main control board part (W102194630 is listed as no longer available, however, the manufacturer has a service replacement control board kit part (W10823804) W10823804. This control board is located under the ref cabinet and is accessed from the rear of the cabinet. There is a user interface board (WP2307037) located in the fresh food section control panel however it is not the same as the main control board located under the ref cabinet which actually runs the ref .
