By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18021552
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2307037

This replacement part is an electronic control board. It is manufactured by Whirlpool and is responsible for monitoring and controlling the functions in a refrigerator. It ensures that the compressor turns on at the appropriate time, handles freezer defrosting, and much more. It can be damaged by exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. If the control board has failed, the refrigerator most likely will not operate at all. In some cases, users may notice intermittent operation, but the board should still be replaced as soon as possible. To replace the board, first unplug the refrigerator. Always wear gloves when servicing the refrigerator. This is a genuine OEM part and it is sold individually. It fits Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, and Roper branded refrigerators.

Denise for Model Number KSCS23INSS01

I was changing the BOTTOM light socket and the wires shorted out that caused blanking out the control unit , ice/water dispenser and all other lights not to work. Although the freezer and fridge is still cooling. I've ordered replacement part WP2307037 but I'm not sure how to safely remove the control panel housing at the top of the fridge. I can only see 2 screws for the light sockets. There are 4 small "holes/sockets" in the housing but the size or type of screw is not visible. How do i remove the housing and what type/size screwdriver do I need?

Answer

Hello Dennis, the manufacturer has no service information on this model for accessing that upper housing, however, typically the screws are either a #2 Philips or 1\4" hex head. However, the problem you are having is not related to that (user interface) board, when the short occurred it damaged the door sensing circuit in the main control board located under the ref cabinet, the original board is no longer available and the manufacturer has a service replacement board kit (with instructions) which adapts it to fit several ref models, that control board is part W10823804.
