Bob for Model Number MQU2057AEW My Maytag freezer will not cool to the required 0 degrees. It will cool down to about 24 degrees and maintain that temperature. Here is what I have done. I replaced the defrost heating element (because I broke the glass on the old one). I also replaced the defrost thermostat since only half the coils froze over. The compressor runs fine and the temperature control thermostat turns on and off properly. Yesterday, I removed the temperature control thermostat to see if I noticed anything obviously wrong. As usual, the people that wired the freezer must have received a big bonus for saving wire. It was extremely difficult to re-install the thermostat since the wires were so short. While looking over some parts diagrams, I noticed a tube (thermostat tube barrier ) that is attached to the thermostat. I did not see this tube attached to my thermostat. If this tube fell down inside the walls of the freezer would that keep the thermostat from working properly? I don't mind buying this tube, but the whole thermostat is expensive and I have already put too much money into an old freezer. Help! Bob
Answer Bob, The tube would not just fall off the thermostat and if the evaporator coils only have a partial frost pattern then this will be a sealed system issue in which there is either a leak or a restriction in the system which will require a service technician.
