Atlantajim for Model Number 106.74262400 Our refrigerator is 7 years old; it's a top-mount freezer model. About a year ago, something to do with the ice maker sometimes causes a knocking sound to occur somewhere in the vicinity of the ice maker, which is in the top-freezer area, not in the bottom compressor/cooling fan/coils area. The knocking was loud, with knocks occurring approximately 2-per-second and would continue for about 30 seconds; it really sounded like someone knocking on the house's front door. BUT, it continued to make ice like a champ! A couple of days ago I emptied it, laid it on its front door, and blew out the dust from the cooling coils; I saw nothing amiss in the back/bottom. When I righted it and removed the bottom/front grille, there was a blue & white plastic part down there, broken off something .. it's about 1-1/2", and seems to be a bracket for the end of a appx 5/8" end of a pipe or tube. The refrigerator now freezes & cools as expected, but the ice maker no longer makes ice .. it doesn't fill. The cold drinking water supply inside the refrigerator works correctly. How to order the needed replacement part, and how to get to where it is?
Answer Hi. Is the ice maker bail arm down ? Is the temperature of the freezer 0° and not too warm? Is the water valve connections tight? Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Remove the front cover on the ice maker part # 4317943. Insert the volt meter leads in the L and N holes to see if there is 120 vac. If not then see if the black thermal fuse has opened in the ice maker wire harness. Use the ohm meter between these two wires to test after unplugging it from the ice maker. Make sure you have 120 vac at the back wall of the freezer where the wirer harness plugs in. Is the front gear on the ice maker jammed or broken. Strip a solid copper # 14 gauge wire 3/8" on each end of a 6" wire length. Fold it into a u-shape. Place it into the front of the ice maker at the T and H terminals . Watch the heavy marked line on the large gear. It should now begin to turn . If not then tape the door switch shut. If it turns then when the large mark gets to the 3-4:00 position the water valve should get 120 vac for approx. 6 seconds. If it does then the water valve part # WP2188808 sends water up the line into the fill tube and into the ice maker. So check the fill tube to see if it is clogged. Water droplets will back freeze the fill tube. or a kinked water line when the unit gets pushed back into normal lace. the knocking sound is from the ice maker heating circuit taking too long to loosen the cubes as the ejector blades try to eject the cubes. As far as the bottom coils mount clip that fell off there is no manual explaining the area of re clipping it. Just place it back on the "Ghost Mark" where it fell off. It will tell on itself where it was originally placed so to speak. Thank you. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Friday, June 22, 2012
