Jim, If you have the original version of the machine( with a door latch handle) WPW10130695 You will need to check the latch handle and assembly for damaged pivot pins and linkage. and the control panel retainer clips for damage. You will need to turn power off to the dishwasher, and remove the inner door liner to access the latch assembly. The balance link kit has little to do with the opening of the door.
