Lealon I have a 2006 Whirlpool Calypso Washing Machine that won't drain. I have a guy come out and clear a clog, but I guess the clog also stripped the ring gear inside the drain pump. My home warranty insurance decided to cash out my claim, but it seems simple enough to replace on my own, after having watched how the guy opened up the washer (I helped him). My questions: 1) could I just replace the stripped ring gear or should I replace the whole drain pump? 2) if I replace the drain pump are there any special tools needed or other replacement parts needed to fix it? 3) for this model, is there a way to test whether I installed it correctly? 4) any other recommendations for this kind of DIY job? Thanks so much !!
Answer Hello Lealon. Based on the information you provided, you just need to order and replace the pump and motor assembly on the unit. There is no special tools needed, and it is best to lean the washer back, use a block to support it and remove the pump from the bottom of the unit with the power and water disconnected. Read More...
