The Dryer Drive Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This motor is responsible for turning the drum and the blower wheel, which allows for effective drying and air circulation within the dryer.

Over time, the drive motor can wear out or fail due to mechanical stress, electrical issues, or general wear from regular use. Causes of a bad drive motor include motor burnout, worn bearings, or issues with the electrical connections.

Symptoms of a bad dryer drive motor include:

  • The dryer drum not spinning
  • The dryer making unusual noises such as humming, buzzing, or grinding
  • The dryer starting but then stopping shortly after
  • A burning smell coming from the dryer

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Romano for Model Number GGW9200LW1

I replaced the motor on a whirlpool duet because it won't spin anymore. After replacing the motor and putting the dryer back together, and turning the machine on, the drum spins, but now it won't stop spinning. Pressing the cancel button turns off the control panel, but the machine keeps running. Even if the machine is spinning, there is no heat. The only way the machine can be stopped is if you open the door, or pull the plug from the wall socket. On timed dry, the minutes do not count down. The control panel was working fine before I replaced the motor. Is the control board now damaged?

Answer

Hello Romano, You should pull the tech sheet and perform the tests recommended on it. This sounds like more than one problem. The unit not stopping at the end of the cycle could be a stuck set of relay contacts on the main board. The not heating complaint could be the ignitor or the coils on the gas valve. This is a situation where troubleshooting will be necessary to pinpoint the trouble.
