Linda for Model Number Whirlpool gas dryer Model # LG5801XMM! this is on the dryer, I can only find last two digits "W1" not "M1" on your web page parts look the same. The igniter will light and the burner will come on for 5 minutes or so (strong flame) then goes out. The igniter will bring the burner on again and it will go out after a short while. If I open the door and let the dryer sit for about 5 or 10 minutes it will come back on for a while. If I don't let it rest long enough it goes out after maybe 30 seconds. The igniter will keep trying to bring the burner on. None of the components are hot. Also, if I have the dryer set on "timed" it's fine, if I have it set on Permanent Press, fluff or Heavy, the timer doesn't work. The parts men are telling us it's the coil but it's not hot. My son worked for Sears for a while, he thought it might be the sensors as sometimes they get dryer sheet residue on them and they don't work correctly. But, I can't find them. I don't often use dryer sheets, but let's face it, the dryer is 28 years old and there have been some dryer sheets run through it. My son has been too busy to get over here to look at the dryer.
Answer Hello Linda, If the gas valve opens and brings the unit up to temperature then when it cycles off, doesn't heat back up, the issue will have to be the coils 279834 on the gas valve or the gas valve 279894 itself is bad.
