Dave for Model Number whirlpool stove Igniter working, oven will not come on, I smell gas, igniter will not turn off until I unplug it.
Answer Dave, A model number would be a big help to assist you, but If you have a "spark igniter" on your oven, You will need to check or replace the oven gas valve. The igniter should spark and attempt to light the burner, after several attempts if the module doesn't recognize a change in the path to ground the module should shut itself down, and not operate until the control is reprogrammed. If you have a "glow bar" igniter igniter, does it glow "white hot" or bright red or orange ? The glow bar needs to glow "white hot", and/or draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps in order to activate the bi metal switch inside the oven gas valve, and release and ignite the oven burner gas. A weak igniter will produce the effects as you described in your post. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, March 23, 2016
