Answer

Daniel, With the water filter in the unit or out, the water will still flow. This unit does not have to have a filter in it for the water to work and does not need a bypass. One way to tell if the filter went in properly and is filtering would be once you put the filter in you need to purge the lines. The water will flow immediately but will become a strong flow so make sure that you use a large pitcher that can hold quite a bit. The reason the flow becomes stronger would be that there is air in the lines from installing the new filter. This will cause pressure that is trying to get out so it will push through and the water will stop and air will come out. Make sure that you purge at least 3 gallons of water to clear the air from the lines and any loose particles of the filter that have come free. If you do not get that heavy flow and air come out of the lines then the filter is most likely not in place properly.
