Al for Model Number ED5VHEXTQ01 Hi, I believe my filter system isn't working. You told Brian, "If you leave the filter AP3866834 out of the refrigerator, the water and ice will not work", but mine does. Is there something wrong with the filtering system? Also, I can't get rid of smelly, stale tasting ice, could this be related to the water not stopping when I remove the filter?
Answer Al, Most Whirlpool refrigerators with the filter housing and cap in the kickplate, will operate with the filter removed " Using the Dispenser Without the Water Filter You can run the dispenser without a water filter. Your water will not be filtered. 1. Remove the water filter. 2. Slide the cap off the end of the filter and replace the cap in the base grille. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter." Other models with the filter located elsewhere may not, and will need a filter "bypass" plug or filter installed, to operate properly. Odors and taste in the water or ice cubes is most often due to chemicals in the water, or lack of,and is a water quality issue. Thanks and Good Luck Read More...
