James for Model Number KBFS20EVWH2 Good afternoon. I have a Kitchenaid fridge w/ freezer below. KBFS20EVWH2 Had major ice build up on evaporator, inlet coil, and bi-metal defrost switch. Everything else works great and appears functional other than finding the source of major defrosting issue. Bi-metal switch closes contact once cooled below 40F° in this case (0.3 ohms) and then opens up to +40k ohms when warmed. The defrost heater measures 26 ohms DC. I tried to simulate a the defost heater to come on by shorting the bimetal switch while I have things apart. No power seems to come to the heater. It did not seem to heat even after 10 minutes. I tested power leads disconnected coming into heater w/ MM set in AC volts. Nothing measurable. Any suggestions for simulating/checking to assure this will go into defrost? Maybe a control board/timer issue? Thanks for any help
Answer Hello James, this may be a control board problem, the Service Mode which includes a defrost system test is listed on the Tech Sheet that came with your model, it should be located under the front lower grill, if missing please contact our Customer Service (1-877-477-7278) and request if a copy can be emailed to you.
