Manufacturer Part Number: 279457

The Heating Element Connecting Wire is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers, designed to provide a secure electrical connection to the dryer's heating element. This critical component ensures that the heating element receives the power it needs to generate heat for drying clothes.

Causes of a bad heating element connecting wire can include overheating, physical damage, or wear and tear over time. These issues can lead to a loss of connectivity, resulting in the heating element failing to heat up.

Symptoms of a bad Heating Element Connecting Wire include:

  • The dryer not heating up despite having power
  • Intermittent heating, suggesting a loose or faulty connection
  • Unusual smells or signs of burning, indicating overheating or damage to the wire

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Maybe I was not clear. The wire leading to the heating element is what is burned...not the heating element.. I am wondering if the wire you sell in your repair kit for this exact situation is made from a special wire to act similar to a fuseable link or or is it standard wire see below original question: Is the heating element conecting wire made of special wire? The one on the lower side of my dryer had burned and came loose. I want to order the replacment for this but also want to be able to use it in the meantime. Can I use a normal 16 gauge wire and a wire nut with a new high temp spade clip for a short while? I am also going to order a new belt and replace the drum slides while I am in there since its ready for them. Thanks, Ed Ed for Model Number mde3758ayw Answer Ed, Unfortunately you would not want to try to use a 16 or any other wire to use the unit for the time being. This would be a safety hazard doing this and the wire would melt as it would get too... show more Read more: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-heating-element-connecting-279457-ap3134638.html#ixzz3XcjmiQbd http://www.appliancepartspros.com

Answer

Ed, You would not want to use normal 16 gauge wire as it has to be high temp wire which is what the heating element connector wire is made of. If you use regular 16 gauge wire that is not high temp then it will simply melt the insulation off and cause a possible arching issue.
