Chris for Model Number whirlpool refrigerators ed2vhexvb01 water keeps running and overflows Just today I noticed that the water kept running in my refrigerator's ice maker. There was no ice blockage in the tray or water supply tube. It only stopped constantly flowing water once I unplugged the fridge. After a while, I plugged the fridge back in and the water kept running and leaking everywhere. I cannot tell if this is a water inlet valve problem or an actual ice machine problem. I have had the water disconnected for some time now. However, I recently reached in and bumped my hand against the bottom of the ice machine tray - and seriously burnt my finger. I'm thinking it is the ice machine and not the water inlet valve. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Answer Hello Chris, Since the water stopped coming in when the unit was unplugged, this indicates a set of contacts in the icemaker assembly that has stuck together and is allowing voltage to continue to be sent to the water valve. Since the mold heater was also energized, the cycle wheel in the front of the icemaker assembly most likely has damage also. You could just replace the motor module 8201515, but the complete icemaker assembly WPW10190965 is cheaper and includes all of the motor module parts plus the cycling thermostat, mold heater, and the rest in a complete assembly.
