Symptoms of a bad infinite switch include:

  • One or both burners not heating up or heating inconsistently

  • Difficulty in adjusting the burner temperature
  • The switch feeling loose, stuck, or unresponsive

Answer

Hi Paul. Main Top Removal, 1. Disconnect power to cooktop and protect the countertop area. 2 Remove cooktop from installation position and place face down on protected surface. 3. Remove screws securing main top to burner box bottom. 4. Remove screws securing control panel box and conduit mounting plate to burner box assembly. 5. Remove knobs and inner grill area hidden screws. 6. Remove and replace the burner switch part # 12002125. Reverse procedure to reassemble, verifying that cooktop frame is properly aligned. NOTE: Make sure the pieces of insulation, located in the front left and right rear corners, are put back in place. Failure to do so could create excessive cabinet temperatures. Thank You.

Answer

Paul, Yes, you will need to raise the complete unit at least enough to clear the perimeter screws(a couple of inches) so you can dismount the glass cooktop and hidden frame in the burner box. Of course you're going to need to turn off the power, disconnect the exhaust vent from the blower motor and raise the unit up from the bottom, you could use a couple of 1X2's or 2X4's to support the unit over the opening in the counter top. Good Luck and Thanks
