By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18027165
Manufacturer Part Number: WP3979346

The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines.  This part controls the flow of water into the appliance during the fill cycle. This assembly consists of a valve that opens and closes to allow water from the household supply to enter the washing machine at the right times and in the correct amounts, depending on the selected wash cycle and water temperature settings.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include sediment buildup, which restricts water flow, wear and tear that impairs the valve's operation, or electrical issues that prevent the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water
  • Water filling too slowly or overflowing
  • Unusual noises during the fill cycle
  • Water not reaching the desired temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Rich for Model Number WTW5600SQ0

I'm not getting hot water into the machine during fill up. I cycle the temperature switch from cold, cool, warm and hot a few times and I get hot water but at a slower rate than the cold. It cycles from hot to cold during fill up with the pressure much greater when the cold water comes into the machine. I checked the resistance on the water inlet valves and I'm getting 1,000 ohms on each and I understand that means they are working normally. Do you think the problem is the valves are faulty, screen clogged or is it the water temperature switch.

Answer

Hello Rich, The first suspect is the mechanical workings of the water inlet valve. If it opens once in a while, but only lets part of the water pressure though, as long as the water pressure to that hose is good, the valve WP3979346 has most likely failed. The only way I would suspect the screens to be blocked is if a water heater has been changed recently or there has been another water heater issue.
