Manufacturer Part Number: WP3979346

The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines.  This part controls the flow of water into the appliance during the fill cycle. This assembly consists of a valve that opens and closes to allow water from the household supply to enter the washing machine at the right times and in the correct amounts, depending on the selected wash cycle and water temperature settings.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include sediment buildup, which restricts water flow, wear and tear that impairs the valve's operation, or electrical issues that prevent the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water
  • Water filling too slowly or overflowing
  • Unusual noises during the fill cycle
  • Water not reaching the desired temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Answer

Hello KB. It could be the valve. The best way to determine this is to test for power to the water valve when you start the cycle, and then see if there is no water when there is power there. If so, you will need to replace the water valve on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
