Answer Bill, The newer "E" (energy efficient) washers, have "target temperatures, and the control will cycle the hot water valve off and on during the fill cycle on all temperature settings. Check to make sure you have plenty of hot water supplied to the machine, and the debris screens are clear. If the noise is a "chattering" or rapid cycle noise, then replace the fill valve.
