Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10195934

The Door Latch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is the mechanism that securely holds the range door shut during cooking operations.

Causes for a bad door latch can include wear and tear of moving parts over time exposing them to high heat, improper cleaning allowing residue to build up and corrode components, or physical damage like bending from excessive force on the door.

Symptoms of a door latch issue include:

  • Inability to fully close the range door
  • Sagging or loose door that does not feel secure during baking and broiling
  • Door that will not safely stay shut on its own

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

Keith for Model Number RBS305 PRSOO

I attempted to use the self-cleaning option on my oven. I pushed clean, etc. The oven started the cleaning process, but then stopped after about 5 minutes. The automatic latch on the door did not retract the way it should have. It is partially out. I was able to open the oven door. After attempting to start the clean function a 2nd time, the blower goes on, but the temp does not work. I cannot get the oven to clean or to bake now. How do I reset the door latch? If I need to replace it or manually reset it how do I get access to it? I took the stainless steel cover off the control module, but there is a black plastice cover on the module. I did not see how to take this plastic cover off. Also, I took the 2 screws out of the narrow vent cover that is between the control module and oven door. I could not take is off because the hot air vent tube from the oven goes thru this plastic grate. Someone suggested I should be able to take this grate off. I did not see how to take it off with the tube going thru it. I looked in the tube and there is a small screw going thru the tube into the frame and it is about 2 inched back in the tube. I do not see how I can access this screw except by getting at it from the top (hence the need-I think to get access to the contol module). So of there is a way to reset the latch without taking everything apart I would appreciate the help.

Answer

Keith, you will need to remove the control panel assembly " 1. Disconnect the electrical power to the oven. 2. Open the oven door.3. Remove the bottom screw from each of the two side trim pieces. 4. To remove the side trim, pull the bottom out approximately 2?, and slide the top down to free it from the control panel.5. Remove the screws from the oven control panel sides under the trim strip.6. To remove the oven control panel, pull it out at the bottom, and lift and unhook it from the oven cabinet support at the top." You can then check the switch assembly and wires for damage WPW10195934. Good Luck and Thanks
