The Door Latch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is the mechanism that securely holds the range door shut during cooking operations.

Causes for a bad door latch can include wear and tear of moving parts over time exposing them to high heat, improper cleaning allowing residue to build up and corrode components, or physical damage like bending from excessive force on the door.

Symptoms of a door latch issue include:

  • Inability to fully close the range door
  • Sagging or loose door that does not feel secure during baking and broiling
  • Door that will not safely stay shut on its own

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Latch, Door (Part Number: OEM18050433)

1 Answer

Brian, with the power supply to the oven turned off, there will be two screws that would need to be removed from the front of the oven latch before it can be pulled forward to change it out.

Bob, The latch should not cause the unit to not heat in normal operation and should only play a role in the self clean mode. This issue sounds more likely that the control board would be faulty and need replaced.

Scott for Model Number RMC305PVS01

I have a whirlpool gold microwave / oven combo. The latch is not operating and I am getting an E1 F5 error. I have pulled the circuit breaker, and followed other instructions for trying to reset to no avail. I was wanting to know if there was a way to test the part number W10195934. I have 120 volts on the back terminals. I have 10 volts on both the light switch for the oven and the other switch. Didn't know if this is the correct voltage and if there was anything I could do to check it.

Hello Scott. 1. Disconnect power or unplug oven. 2. Check the latch assembly: latch arm pivot joint, arm/motor connection, plunger and hook springs. 3. Check the Latch Motor: - Check for firm electrical connections. - Disconnect the two wires from the motor and measure the resistance of the motor. The resistance should be approximately 2450O. If the motor is open (8O) or shorted (0O), it should be replaced. 4. Check the Latch Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door latched = switch closed, continuity should read 0O. - Door unlatched = switch open, continuity should read 8O. 5. Check Door Open/Closed Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door open = switch open, continuity should read 8O. - Door closed = switch closed, continuity should read 0O. 6. Check Sister Board: - Check connections latch motor – sister board. - Replace sister board. 7. Check power and element connections. 8. Replace control. 9. Reconnect power or plug in oven. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Russ, It is possible for the motor to be seized, but if all connections are good the most likely issue will be the sister board. If this does not correct the issue, the problem will be the main board.

Hello Gerald. Check the door switch and make sure it is not bad. If it is good, then you will need to order and replace the control board in the unit.
