Al for Model Number GMC305PRQ01 My Whirlpool microwave oven heats-up and works fine except it makes a buzzing noise on Power Level 10. On Power Level 1 the noise is intermittent. It seems like it only makes noise under load. I don't mind the noise but is it bad to continue using the microwave? Will other parts be affected by running it with this noise? I was reading comments on the internet and a similar problem said the magnetron might be on its last leg and will eventually no longer heat up. Is this true? Can I wait till the magnetron no longer heats up or should it be replaced now?
Answer Hi. The magnetron part # W10245183 is most likely the issue with the humming. Physical signs of magnetron failure is a melted tip, or cracked side magnets. If the magnetron is shorted then it will spark against the frame. If so then sand the bad section and use paint part # WP261869 (a few coats). Remove the top will do favorably to remove the cover and just see if any component is loose and causing this issue. DO-NOT-TOUCH-CAPACITOR- TOP- TERMINALS-(High voltage). See if the Magnetron fan blade part # WP4375322 may be loose on the shaft or a broken fin. Consider to purchase the diode part # WPW10687786 as well as the magnetron because it is in the same electrical circuit. This way you will have a faster repair turn around time with the parts already there. Thank You. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, November 6, 2012
