Joel for Model Number Whirlpool WFW9050XW My washer has been making a groaning sound in the rinse and drain and drain and spin cycles for a while now. It has just thrown a F7E1 error code and stops when in the wash cycle if it has clothes in the tub. When empty it will go through all cycles (and still groans), but it seems as if the tub doesn't turn as fast as it should while spinning. Given that it completes the entire wash cycle with no load I am inclined to point to the motor as the culprit. The washer is a little over two years old and I don't know whether though pitch it and buy new or repair it and take a chance that it will happen again in the near future as I have heard this is a common issue with these washers. Thoughts? Thanks!
Answer Hello Joel, The fault code F7E1 is a DRIVE MOTOR TACHOMETER ERROR. If the control is unable to properly detect motor speed, the washer shuts down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door unlocks after 3 minutes. Possible Causes/Procedure: Verify that the shipping system, including shipping bolts and spacers, are removed, and that the power cord is out of the washer. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Make sure that all wire harness connections between the Motor & MCU, and MCU to CCU are not broken or with wires detached, and that connector internal pins are visible. Check continuity from the main motor to the motor control (MCU) and MCU to the CCU (MS2, MI3 cavities). If the continuity diagnosis failed, Main Harness must be replaced. - Check the resistance of main Motor. Check the resistance of the Tachometer. Make sure that the motor connector is assembled correctly. Plug in washer or reconnect power. Verify the washer operation by running the Diagnostic Test cycle. After the diagnostic test has finished, unplug washer or disconnect power and wait for 15 seconds. It is also a good idea to check the sump area for debris. Read More...
