J for Model Number 3468XTA Magic Chef Gas range

Having trouble bringing gas oven temp up to desired heat. But like another question you answered If I put it on 500 - can reach that temp. Temp seems off by over 100 at lower temps. Also having trouble igniting - takes awhile & then does it with a small initial whoosh or boom. Subsequent cyclings on & off are happening without whoosh or boom but temp is dropping too much between them. Plan on replacing ignitor. But are preheating problems a sign of something else beside ignitor -- probe or control board? I tested temp probe - correctly I think & got repeated readings of 1090 at room temp. Can you tell me how to test the wiring to the probe. Am I just to test the other part that slips into the probe connector? What should that test at,1090 ohms? Am I testing for defective wiring or control board? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer

J, the temperature probe 12001655 can be tested from the control 7601P208-60 (control has been discontinued by the manufacturer) for resistance after unplugging the power cord. In regards to the temperature being off, as the temperature probe tested good, and the unit will reach the proper temperature at a 500°F setting, the issue would most likely be in the main control. For the unit not igniting properly at first, it would be recommended that the burner is thoroughly cleaned as it sounds like there might be blocked ports. If it continues after the burner has been thoroughly cleaned, then it would be a failing ignitor 12400035.
