The Oven Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It measures the oven's internal temperature and sends this information to the control board to maintain the desired cooking temperature.

Causes of a bad temperature sensor can include exposure to high temperatures over long periods, electrical issues such as short circuits, or physical damage due to impact or mishandling.

Symptoms of a bad temperature sensor include:

  • Inaccurate temperature readings
  • Oven not heating to the set temperature
  • Oven overheating
  • Error codes displayed on the oven control panel

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Mj for Model Number JGS8860BDP

Having the following problems with the oven of our Jenn Air range (JGS8860BDP): When I select Bake, the oven does not start up-- no ignitor element glowing red and no flames. On the control panel, it registers as Preheating and shows 100 degrees but of course never goes above that because it is not heating up. When I start Convect Bake, the ignitor element glows red and the flame comes on like normal, but only for about 3-4 minutes and then the flame goes out and it stops heating up before reaching the selected temperature. When I select Broil, it works fine-- ignitor glows red, flame comes on, and it does not go out. Surface burners work fine. Trying to determine whether the problem is with the temperature sensor, the ignitor element, or the control panel. Which part do you think is causing the problem and/or what order do you think we should test these three parts? We already have a spare control panel we could try, but don't mind spending $25 for a new tempature sensor if you think that is worth a try first.

Answer

MJ, I wouldn't start with the oven temp sensor, Since you didn't mention any error codes in the display and the other cycles you mentioned seem to work properly. At this point, I would concentrate on a weak or faulty bake burner igniter or oven safety valve,74007498 W10130932. The igniter should draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps when glowing or produce 3.2 to 3.6 VAC at the wires on the terminals on the safety valve. Any readings below the 3.2 or a prolonged period to achieve that reading would indicate a weak igniter. Thanks and Good Luck
