The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This assembly is responsible for circulating water through the dishwasher during the wash cycle, ensuring that dishes are thoroughly cleaned.

Over time, the pump and motor assembly can fail due to wear and tear, debris buildup, or electrical issues. Regular use, along with exposure to hard water, can cause the components to degrade, leading to performance problems.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not draining from the dishwasher
  • Error codes indicating pump or motor issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Mike, Turn off the power to the unit and verify the power is off. Remove the lower rack and remove the spray arm. Close the dishwasher door and remove the kick panel. Remove the drain pump from the side of the assembly and slide it aside. Unplug the harness from the pump and motor assembly. Remove the drain hose and pull the three clips out that hold the pump and motor assembly in place. Push up on the assembly and the assembly will "pop" out of the installed position. Open the door and carefully pick up the assembly and rotate it enough to get it out of the opening, remembering there are still two connections to remove. One is the turbidity sensor which removes by turning it about 1/4 turn and pull it straight out. The other is a ground wire that will require a 1/4 inch socket or nut driver to remove. Be sure this ground wire is reinstalled so no one gets electrocuted. Now you should be able to set the old assembly aside and begin the installation of the new one. The first thing you need to do when installing the new assembly is to connect the ground wire and reinstall the turbidity sensor. Be sure the gasket is correctly placed on the bottom of the sump. Set it back in with the groove lined up to the front. When you push the assembly down into the opening be sure to push the back down first. Reach back under the unit and re-install the rear two retainer clips first. Reach inside and push down slow and constantly until the assembly looks close to level in the floor of the tub. Quickly lay back down and install the front clip. This is where speed is important. If you take your time to get back in the floor, the pump will slowly raise back up and you will not be able to install the front clip. The remainder of the re-installation is the reverse of the removal process. Be sure to run the unit with water in it with the kick panel off to check for leaks.
