  • Switches power to elements, fans, or other high-load components when signaled by the control
  • Offloads high current from the electronic control for durability and reliability

Jim for Model Number JDS9860AAP

Hi. I just replaced this relay and it worked great for about 10 minutes and then the oven became erratic again and the buzzing from the relay is back. I'm assuming the problem is not the relay. Is the relay now ruined? Could the problem be one of the elements? They look fine, and I did a continuity test when I had the back off of the oven. Do I have to remove the elements to get an accurate reading? I've had the stove for at least 14 years and have never changed out the top burner, only the bottom. Thanks for your help.

Answer

Jim, You will need to test voltages coming to the relay to find the issue. This is a double line break relay. It is responsible for supplying one side [120 VAC] to both the bake and broil elements. In the NO terminal, you should find 120 VAC coming to the relay. On the common split terminal, there should be 120 on each wire.It is hard to say if the new relay is ruined. The elements should be tested for resistance and a reading of 10 -50 ohms is acceptable.
