Part Number: OEM18040818
Manufacturer Part Number: WP902894

The Whirlpool Dishwasher Door Gasket is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It provides a watertight seal around the door to prevent water leaks during the wash cycle.  With a length of 66.5 inches, this part forms an airtight seal around the dishwasher door, preventing water leaks during operation.

Causes of a bad door gasket can include cracks and breaks developing from repeated exposure to temperature changes during wash cycles. Over time, rubber perishes leaving gaps that compromise the seal.

Symptoms of a failing door gasket:

  • Water pools on the floor in front of the dishwasher
  • Dishes remaining wet after a full cycle
  • Visible cracks or tears in the rubber

This genuine OEM  part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dishwasher models.

David for Model Number DWU8460AAX Maytag

I am going to replace the door gasket on this unit. I notice that at the bottom right had side of the tub (when looking at the unit) it has a short gasket channel that extends a short way on to the actual bottom of the tub after fully coming down the right side, perhaps by about an inch or so. This channel extension does not appear similarly on the left side of the tub bottom which I find to be strange as it is not consistent. I am not sure if the original gasket extended into this small channel extension on the right side tub bottom. Should the new gasket also be fitted into this short channel extension on the right side tub bottom? On the left side of the tub, how far down beyond the end of that channel should the gasket go? Thanks

Answer

Hello David, The door gasket does extend down into the strange little track below the bottom of the door. The other side just lays down there and the rest of the excess gasket material is allowed to extend past the groove. The purpose of this is to prevent any sloshing of the water in the tub from jumping the front of the washtub of the dishwasher. The bottom of the door cannot be sealed since it is used as an air inlet for the dry cycle.
