Customer Questions and Answers for Oven Temperature Sensor by Whirlpool

By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18034032
Manufacturer Part Number: WP7430P044-60

This oven temperature sensor monitors heat inside the oven and sends that signal to the control to regulate the heating elements. Replacing a faulty sensor restores accurate preheat and steadier baking performance. What it does:

  • Continuously measures actual oven-cavity temperature and reports it to the control
  • Lets the control board cycle bake and broil elements to maintain the set temperature
  • Common symptoms of failure: won't reach set temperature, runs too hot or too cold, extended preheat, or sensor-related error codes on the display
  • If the sensor reads open/shorted, many controls will disable heat as a safety
Includes:
  • 1 oven temperature sensor
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker; allow the oven to cool completely
  • Sensor is typically mounted to the rear oven wall; remove mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector (some models require rear-panel access)
  • Disconnect the 2-wire plug carefully to avoid losing the connector into the insulation
  • Route wiring as original, seat the connector fully, secure the sensor, restore power, and test operation

Answer

Michael, Does the broil element in the same oven work ? You'll need to turn power off to the range, remove the rear panel, and check the wiring to the element(s) for damage and loose connections. From there you'll need to trace the wire(s) back to the remote "DLB" relay and check the wires and relays there, and back up to the main control panel/control. It is not uncommon for a relay to short out and malfunction, when a loose or broken wire shorts out to chassis ground. If all checks are OK, then replace the control. The oven temp. sensor is the least likely issue at this point. Good Luck and Thanks
