The Oven Sensor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens, designed to accurately measure the oven's internal temperature and communicate it to the control board. This ensures that the oven maintains the desired temperature setting during baking or roasting, providing consistent cooking results.

Causes of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly can include exposure to high temperatures for prolonged periods, affecting the sensor's accuracy, electrical malfunctions like short circuits or wiring issues impacting its performance, and physical damage from cleaning or moving the oven compromising the sensor's integrity.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly include:

  • The oven does not heat to the set temperature
  • Over or undercooking of food
  • Error codes displayed on the oven's control panel

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

John T. for Model Number Sears 665.95014102 by whirlpool

Hi, The E-2 F-3 error code displayed on my oven. I was baking at time. The broiler element came on and I tried to turn it off. I had to turn off the breaker because it would not shut off using the control on the range. I checked the wiring on back the of the unit. It all seems ok. I unpluged the temperature senser and got a reading on the display of E-0 F-3. I plugged the senser back in and it went back to the first code. This was last night. Today with a fresh mind I turned on the oven at 350 degrees. The baking part works ok. I tried the broiler function and temperature reached 400 degrees and the element went off. Please, any suggestions would be appreciated. John

Answer

Hello John, The E3 F3 does indicate that the electronic oven control board detects that the oven had an over-temperature condition. This is likely caused by a bad oven temperature sensor WPW10181986 since it only occurs when the temperature is above 400 degrees. There is a chance that the electronic oven control (EOC) WP8523665 is bad but this is less likely than having a bad sensor since the sensor is exposed to a great deal of heat and electrical components fail more quickly when exposed to extreme heat. A bad wiring harness between the sensor and the control board could also cause this problem. If you have a test meter, you can discontinue the power supply at the breaker and check the resistance of the sensor probe. At room temperature (75 F), the sensor should measure about 1080 ohms. If you place the sensor in a glass of ice water at 32 F, it should measure about 1000 ohms. If the resistance is more than 10% off, the sensor will need to be replaced.
