By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18018171
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2188542

This dual water valve is an OEM Replacement Part intended for use with Whirlpool refrigerators that feature both a water dispenser and an ice maker. The purpose of this refrigerator water inlet valve is to supply the necessary water to both the ice maker and the water dispenser in a controlled manner. While its appearance may vary from the original part, it maintains identical functionality and is authorized by the manufacturer as a direct replacement.

Causes of a bad valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to problems with water flow, affecting both the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad inlet valve may include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all
  • Low water pressure or slow water flow from the dispenser
  • Water leakage from the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Spinman, First and foremost, turn of the breaker or unplug the unit. Turn the water supply to the unit off. Unscrew the water supply line from the old water inlet valve. Remove the back cover and the 2 screws holding the valve on the unit. Remove the wires one at a time and install onto the new valve as they are removed. Doing it this way prevents any possibility of crossing the wires. Remove the water lines from the old valve and install them onto the new valve. I normally run the water supply line through the hole in the back cover assembly and connect the water supply to the new valve before attaching the valve to the unit. This is how I insure there is no water leak. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks with a dry paper towel. If you just feel for a leak and you touch a cold part, it feels like it may be wet. If you use a paper towel, if it's wet, it's wet. No question. At this point, if no leaks are present, mount the valve on the unit and reinstall the panel to the back of the unit. Be sure that you reinstall the panel cover as this is not just for decoration. It's job is to direct air flow across the hot coils and the defrost drain pan for normal operation to take place. Now you should dispense at least a gallon of water to purge the air from the system.
