This dual water valve is an OEM Replacement Part intended for use with Whirlpool refrigerators that feature both a water dispenser and an ice maker. The purpose of this refrigerator water inlet valve is to supply the necessary water to both the ice maker and the water dispenser in a controlled manner. While its appearance may vary from the original part, it maintains identical functionality and is authorized by the manufacturer as a direct replacement.

Causes of a bad valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to problems with water flow, affecting both the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad inlet valve may include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all
  • Low water pressure or slow water flow from the dispenser
  • Water leakage from the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Dual Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18018171)

Neil for Model Number ED22CQXHW02

I just received my replacement valve, WP2188542, and started following the video to install. Fairly straight forward except... The video says that the new part has push to lock fittings for the two water out lines and I should cut off the existing compression fittings so the lines work with the push to lock fitting. I did that. The part I received does not have push to lock fittings, it's set up for compression fittings, which use the compression fitting I just cut off. How screwed am I? Will it work if I simply slide the compression nuts back on the lines?

1 Answer

Neil, All you have to do is remove the tube from the nut and install the compression nut on the tube and screw it in.If the nut is leaking or anything you can go to your local hardware store and get a 5/16" and a !/4" compression nut to replace those.

Jim for Model Number KSRS25QGAL00

I purchased the Water Inlet valve for my Kitchenaide ice maker 3 1/2 years ago. It's again not getting water to the mold. You part number is AP6006054. What I was able to read this weekend, I could determine if it was operational by testing the resistance. I got a reading of about 190 on the ice maker side and 247 on the cold water side of the valve. The water dispenser is working so I'm wondering if these readings indicate that the valve has failed again? I did check the feed tube, it is clear and I checked the flow of water to the valve and it's running strong, I think. I filled a cup of water in 6 seconds which extrapolated to a gallon in appx. 1.6 minutes. Is there anywhere else I should check?

Hello Jim, the valves coils are in range, but that only tests the coils not actual valve operation for ice maker's fill side. How you want to test the icemaker's fill circuit is to cycle the ice maker and test that 120v is showing at the valve's tan and white wire terminals during the last part of the harvest cycle for about 7 seconds, if so and the mold did not fill and the fill tube is not frozen then replace the valve. If it did fill and the freezer temp is below 10 deg then replace the ice maker.

Ken, You will want to check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen coming into the icemaker. If it is not frozen then check the thermal fuse in the harness to see if it has continuity. If there is no continuity then the fuse would be faulty and need to be replaced. If the thermal fuse is part of the wiring harness that goes directly into the wall then this can be cut out and splice in a new one.

Hello John. The model number you provided does not use a filter. Check the icemaker 4317943 to see if it bad and causing the unit to flake off into the ice. Thank you.

Scott, With no water getting to the icemaker then this could be a water valve or icemaker issue. You will need to cycle the icemaker and then check for 120 vac getting to the water valve when the unit calls for water. If there is 120 vac then the valve will be faulty and need to be replaced. If there is not 120 vac then the issue will be a faulty icemaker.

Hello Van. If the water valve is not leaking, you will need to replace the icemaker. It controls the amount of water.
