Warren for Model Number 2188542 water intake valve I replaced this valve several months ago and it has been working fine. Today it appears as though the line that dispenses water into the ice maker is frozen. How do I unthaw this plastic line? The water dispenser works fine.
Answer Hello Warren, Thaw the water line out with a hair dryer. Since the line is frozen up, either the new valve you put on has failed or there is low water pressure to the water valve from the supply line. You see, the water valve is closed solely by water pressure. If the water pressure is low, the valve will close too slowly and the water will "weep" into the freezer compartment through the fill tube and freeze before it can drip out of it. There is the slight possibility that the issue was a water pressure issue to begin with. It will sometimes take a while to freeze the fill tube up completely if the pressure issue isn't too severe. In other words, if you're on the borderline of enough water pressure and the ice maker happens to be filling when a toilet is flushed, someone is taking a shower, the dishwasher is filling, etc., the amount of ice that is accumulated will be small enough that it will take a while to completely block off the water flow.
