By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18018171
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2188542

This dual water valve is an OEM Replacement Part intended for use with Whirlpool refrigerators that feature both a water dispenser and an ice maker. The purpose of this refrigerator water inlet valve is to supply the necessary water to both the ice maker and the water dispenser in a controlled manner. While its appearance may vary from the original part, it maintains identical functionality and is authorized by the manufacturer as a direct replacement.

Causes of a bad valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to problems with water flow, affecting both the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad inlet valve may include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all
  • Low water pressure or slow water flow from the dispenser
  • Water leakage from the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Hello Mario, The water valve is a good place to start but you should probably dis-connect the water line at the valve and see if the water dispense button will cause the valve to open. If it does, your water tank could be frozen. This can be corrected by removing the drawers in the bottom of the fresh food compartment and blowing a hair dryer at the water tank for 10 to 15 minutes. If this turns out to be the issue, you should set the freezer setting to one number warmer and set the fresh food compartment one setting COLDER. I know this sounds backwards, but think of it like this: Cold air is heavier than warm air. That means that the cold air will settle to the bottom of the unit while the fans are not running. The setting of the fresh food compartment colder will turn the fans on more often which will keep the air stirred up. This will prevent the water tank and items in the drawers from freezing.
