The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly includes two switches, a bracket, and a fuse. It is responsible for detecting whether the lid is securely shut, allowing the washer to proceed with the selected wash cycles.

Causes of a faulty or damaged lid switch assembly can include regular use, wear and tear, or electrical malfunctions. These factors can result in issues such as the washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle, safety concerns if the washer operates with the lid open, or error codes indicating lid switch failure.

Symptoms of a bad lid switch assembly may include:

  • The washer not starting or not responding when the lid is closed
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not completing the wash cycle
  • Error codes indicating a problem with the lid switch

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Mark A. for Model Number lat5005aaw

Just receieved a new door switch part realize the holding bolt must be placed correctly. I tried a few spots with the washer unpluged after each. I would plug it back in and try it with the console loose only to have no luck. I looked at the old switch and saw the mark of the original bolt, it was all the way forward towards the front of the machine in the slot. Again no luck. I plugged it back in. So now, i'm wondering about the wires. I will tell you how I have them, front, right side, left side all looking at the machine from the front. The front long white sleeve. Right side red. Next double black. Next double black. Next brown fuse wire. Left side double red double white fuse wire. Thanks if the wires are right we'll go from there. If they are not please correct me. Asuming the wiring is correct. If not i'll fix them. How do you know when you hit the proper connect spot if you are unplugged and the console is off or does the console need to be on? Thanks. Mark

Answer

Hello Mark. Looking at the lid switch assembly WP22001682, the check switch or the white micro switch, the double black goes on the M terminal, the white wire goes on the 30 terminal, and the single red goes to 12 terminal. Then on the black lid switch, Double red goes to 12 terminal and double black goes to the SW terminal. Make sure the double black coming from the motor and timer motor is on the check switch and the double black from the timer is on the lid switch. Then the white and brown wire goes to the fuse. Hope this helps.
