The Water Level Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This switch is responsible for detecting the water level inside the washer tub and communicating this information to the control board to regulate the filling and draining processes. It ensures that the washing machine uses the correct amount of water for each cycle, optimizing cleaning performance and water usage.

Causes of a bad water level switch can include electrical malfunctions, wear and tear over time, or damage from water exposure. When the water level switch fails, it can disrupt the machine’s ability to fill or drain properly, leading to various performance issues.

Symptoms of a bad water level switch include:

  • The washer not filling with water
  • The washer overfilling with water
  • The washer not advancing through the cycle
  • Inconsistent water levels in the drum

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Hello Jon, no there is no practical way to test this type of analog pressure switch as it is powered and monitored by the control board to determine the tub's water level based on the pressure build-up/drop in the air trap/air line as the tub is filling and also draining. If the tub's airtrap is not blocked, the airline is not pinched or cracked, the tubing connections are airtight, and the wire harness to the switch is clean and properly connected then the next step is to replace the pressure switch.
