Manufacturer Part Number: 12002355

The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Sylvester for Model Number MSD2657HEW

I ordered a thermistor per this diagrams! I tested the control damper /ap4079111/ as You advised and it is worked! I was suprised that I did not find any thermistor inside the light module> So where it is if this model has one. My problem that the refrigirator compressor runnin g all the time, not switching in or out. The refrigirator five years old and this is the second time that this is happening! First the control panel and the dumper was replaced 2 years ago. Is that normal this problem???

Answer

Hi Sylvester. Is there any frost on the back wall of your freezer? If so you have a defrost failure that is "normal' with any man made parts. You will need to change the defrost heater if it doesn't ohm out to 8-22 ohms on a ohm meter. This part is part # WP67004188. Also your defrost thermostat should read closed under frozen conditions. If it is open (with an ohm meter) then this part # is WP67004188. If all of these test good then the frost build up on the evaporator coils are because the A.D.C. control did not command defrost to happen. This part # is WPW10503278. Thank you.
