Manufacturer Part Number: 12002355

The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Answer

Pedro, You will need access to a multimeter. You'll need to remove the freezer drawer, then the freezer back wall to access the heater WP67001794 and the thermostat WP67003426. With the multimeter set for RX1 scale resistance, you will remove the wire connections and check for a "closed" circuit on the heater terminals, and then the same "closed" circuit on the thermostat wires,as long as the thermostat is below 40 degrees F. (a glass of ice water works well). Make sure there are no loose connections or ice in the wiring connectors. You should be able to find the "tech Data" sheet, behing the kickplate grille, in a plastic envelope, and can conduct the tests for all of the systems in the refrigerator. If all checks are OK, you'll need the control board WPW10503278. Here's some meter usage information, should you need it : [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html] Thanks and Good Luck
