Cyber Mike for Model Number MZD2766GEW

My older side-by-side Matag Refrigerator does not normally leak from the water/ice dispenser. It operates normal both before and after the following incident that occurred twice in the last month. You know how the refrigerator water/ice dispenser makes that click noise when you press your cup against the activator to start dispensing? Well I was in another room and overheard that noise repeatedly occurring (every 5 seconds or so). When I ran to the kitchen to investigate, I found a lot of water had already leaked everywhere onto the kitchen floor. When I opened the freezer door, the activator/clicking stopped but water kept dripping down. The water was coming from the ice-maker and was dripping down onto the freezer food shelves and down the dispenser opening. OBSERVATION #1: There was a full tray of ice that had been lifted upward, like what happens near the end of its ice-making cycle and the ice was stuck at the top - it didn't quite get pushed over the side into the ice cube reservoir. OBSERVATION #2: I arrived in the kitchen after only 30 seconds of click/activation noise and the quantity of water that spilled onto the floor looked like much more water than what would have dispensed through 30 seconds of dispensing water. So I'm thinking this is not the dispenser malfunctioning but the dispenser reacting to what was happening up at the ice maker. What do you think the root cause is? The Ice-maker? The dispenser? Something else?

Answer

Cyber Mike, WIth the unit leaking in the freezer it sounds likely that the icemaker water valve has failed and would need to be replaced.
