By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18069096
Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10567140

This mechanical thermostat monitors temperature and opens or closes the circuit at a fixed set point to control heat and prevent overheating. Replacing a failed thermostat restores safe operation and consistent performance. What it does:

  • Senses surface or component temperature and switches the circuit at a calibrated threshold
  • Helps protect heaters, motors, and controls from thermal damage due to over-temperature
  • Common symptoms of failure: no heat, shuts off mid-cycle, won't start until cooled, or intermittent operation
  • Restores proper temperature control after a thermostat sticks open/closed or drifts out of spec
What's included:
  • 1 thermostat
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker (and shut off gas, if applicable) before servicing
  • Note wire positions and transfer leads one-for-one to the new thermostat
  • Mount flush against the sensing surface with original screws/clips; reinstall any insulation or thermal interface material as found
  • Correct the root cause (blocked vents, failed fan, restricted airflow, or buildup) before returning the appliance to service

Answer

Hi B. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Is the fan motor getting full 120 vac to it ? Does it turn up to speed ? The thermostat control is the device that regulates the compressor to run as well as the evaporator and the compressor. Is the freezer evaporator getting a full frost pattern across it? Remove the rear freezer wall and see if it does. Does your cold control regulate the compressor run time? Does it start and stop the compressor as commanded? If it is hard to turn then it needs replaced. The freezer should be at 32° normally and the fresh food at 38-47 °. Thank You.
