Jerry B. for Model Number Maytag washer, model LA712 As a follow up to my earlier question, the bearing may be my problem, and therefore, I will need to replace it. If you think that is the problem and moving the motor will not fix it, should I replace the bearing along with the transmission? If that is the case, considering the expense and time, should I tell my wife we need a new machine?
Answer Hello Jerry, This really depends on how much you like the machine. Changing the bearing is a big job and it requires a couple of special tools, (spanner wrench TJ038315, spanner wrench 22038313). The second wrench is no longer available so this job will be harder yet. There is a picture of the tool on page 3-28 of the service manual. The transmission shouldn't need to be replaced unless there is an issue with it. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Thursday, October 4, 2012
