Manufacturer Part Number: 8193504

The Upper Wash Arm is an OEM component specifically designed for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for spraying water across the upper rack during the wash cycle to effectively clean dishes. It measures approximately 7.5 inches long by 1.37 inches wide.

Causes of a bad upper wash arm can include mineral or lime scale buildup that clogs the spray nozzles, or damage to the arm itself such as cracks or breaks that compromise its spraying ability.

Symptoms of a bad upper wash arm include:

  • Inadequate cleaning of upper rack dishes
  • Dirty dishes after a cycle
  • Clogged or blocked spray nozzles
  • Visible damage or wear to the arm

This OEM replacement wash arm from Whirlpool is compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models as well.

Answer

Stan, The upper spray arm isn't the likely issue, especially since you've checked and cleaned it. The next check needs to be at the water supply. First check and make sure the float and switch operate, raise and lower the float to make sure it moves freely and you can hear the switch "click". Then start the dishwasher on a regular wash cycle, allow the dishwasher to fill and wash for a few minutes (5 mins.) then unlatch the door and remove the lower rack. The water level in the bottom of the tub should be at most 1/4 inch below the element it should be closer or touching the element, if not there's not enough water in the dishwasher to properly distribute the water and produce enough pressure to operate the spray arms(s) and clean the dishes on all levels.
